Spend Wildly - Giving!

What was Jesus' basic financial advice?  It wasn't to work hard, save money and be thrifty.  It was something more.  His consistently repeated approach to finances was this:

Spend wildly.  Work hard, save what's needed, be thrifty, sure.  But not because you need to worry about taking care of you.  There's Another who is much more capable of that.  Instead, do those things so you can spend wildly on what He cares most about.....His work in people.  Cultivate a heart that can thrive while giving away more than it makes sense to.

At Lighthouse, we are asking him to cultivate that kind of heart in us as a group.  So we have been learning how to live on a gradually decreasing percentage of our income....as individuals and as a church.  Recognizing that we live in an unprecedented era and culture of prosperity, we are prayerfully heading toward giving 50% of our church income toward causes and people that aren't part of our church family or programs.  We've got a ways to go.  But we're starting to get caught up in the joy of spending wildly.
