Different fields of people's life take a lot of time, so why should we expend free time for comparison contrast essay composing? It will be greater to use some sociology essay service to purchase the essay papers from, I think.

The Beauty Walk

Today at church my Pastor asked us if we were up to a challenge. The challenge was to see, smell, hear and feel our way through nature; we were to think of God as the artist and ourselves as the art student. We were to write down what our senses observed. I decided to take him up on this as I thought it would be a great day to do this as well as being one of the last of the nicest days of the year we had left, besides I had only the chore of putting up Christmas decorations and I thought this would be easier. I only wanted to change one thing, the name of this project. “The Beauty Walk”? Come on Thurm, how about something manlier like, Man vs. Nature or The Big Boy Vs. The Big Wild? Maybe it is because we have as many females in our church as men or maybe it is because we were not to attack nature but to enjoy what God has painted on his canvas. I bet Thurm meant the later.

Ok so I am back from my walk, the weather really changed since church, boy did it get cold, and so I am writing this about thirty minutes after my return.

I decided to take this challenge on like I was going to the Smithsonian or the Louver in France. I went prepared and I went with an open mind. After putting on a heavy sweatshirt, hiking boots and gloves I headed from the warmth of my home to the wet and cold of my property. The rain was just at a mist so it wasn’t too wet to go and it was cold enough to see my breath. I was glad I was dressed properly for my beauty walk.

So I took a few steps into the woods I call my back yard. The rain made the fallen leaves on the ground sing with a thousand voices. The sound was so loud that the squirrels did not hear me, they went about their business of gathering the hidden treasure that they placed in the ground just a few short months before. Watching them dig up the nuts and then scurry up the trees to their nest made me very thankful I was just observing and not working as hard as them.

I must not have covered my wrist very well as I received a scratch that kind of startled me. After peering down at the purplish vine with big thorns on it, I realized that what I was looking at was the leafless vine of the raspberry bush. I never notice these in the summer as they are covered with thick green leaves and I do not care for raspberries.

After making it through the raspberry patch I walked into what was a cleared mountain bike path. Where, three short years ago, lay a path for biking, walking and dog running, now laid a path of huge fallen trees. It was amazing to see a tree that was four feet around, twenty plus feet high, lying on the floor of my woods like a pick up stick. But it wasn’t just one tree, as I looked around there were so many that had been blown over by three years of wind storms I could not count them all. The thing that caught my eye was not the big behemoths lay in what seemed as a giant game of Jenga. No, it was all the smaller trees, even though bare from the fall of their leaves, standing tall and ready to take place of the older trees that had fallen, as it seemed, just to make room for them.

After what seemed forever climbing over fallen tree after fallen tree I came to the “creek”. After remembering that we took the bridge out a few years back to make a wall for paintball, I now had to face the creek without the safety, not to mention the ability to keep my feet dry, bridge. Looking for an area to cross, I grabbed one of the many sticks that fell with the trunks that now lay at my feet. I took the stick and started to move the leaves that were covering the creeks water flow. To my surprise the water that was suppose to be flowing through the two walls of opposing dirt was not there. So I walked up the creek through more fallen trees and rocks that had navigated carefully. The rocks were covered with leaves making the ground even more unstable to walk on. When I got to the mouth of the creek I spotted the quagmire and saw it would only take a few minutes to clear but this was an art project to I decided to leave the work for another day and walked back down the creek. I came to a point where the creek had low walls and thought that it would be a good place to cross. Making it down the side I was on was easy but a little slippery. Going up the other side was a bit harder. The rain had made the dirt very slick forcing me to use my hands. The dirt felt wet through my gloves and did not help much in the climb. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a tree stump, so I reached up and grabbed it. I did get a good hold of the stump but that in itself was a challenge because of the rain that left a layer of slime on it.

Knowing that my walk was about to come to an end I really decided to take a long look at the ground. After a few yards of slow walking I came across a skull with very sharp teeth. Making sure there wasn’t any flesh on the skull, I picked it up. With the sharp teeth and the size I realized that it could only be the skull of an opossum or a baby raccoon. I guess the circle was ended for this animal and started or continued right here. This made me take a deeper look out there thinking, not only was my walk full of plants and water but animals both alive and dead.

After stepping out of the woods and back to the edge of my back yard, I looked back and took in the painting God did just for me. God is good all the time…
